Why do we have moles on our skin?

What are they made up of and what is their purpose?

Why do we have moles on our skin?
there are many different kinds, some are caused by the sun, sunlight increases the melanin in the skin cell (which makes us tan) and some cells produce too much at the same point and the melanin clusters together to create a mole, either fading with time or become permanent. Hormones can cause it too (some pregnant women can suddenly develop brown spots, which do fade). It can also be hereditory, if your mum/dad have lots good chances are that your skin will be similar.
Reply:Their only purpose is to be destroyed.
Reply:They are the connecting points for the lines that we will get as we age.....wrinkles.

Reply:It's a conspiracy. My dermatologist has made thousands cutting them off me only to have new ones grow right back beside the place of the old ones.
Reply:I got rats on my skin as well. aaaarrghhh!!!!
Reply:They are anomalies with no purpose.
Reply:They are a group of freckles put together. Their purpose? To annoy us.
Reply:i have no idea but i have two of them on my face but i love mine!!
Reply:Moles are mutations in the skin. You get them through hereditary and the sun.

2) "The high concentration of the body’s pigmenting agent, melanin, is responsible for their dark color. Moles are a member of the family of skin lesions known as naevi."

So yea basically from what I understand they are just skin defects.. I have also heard that hey can appear form prolonged periods in the Sun, but I dont know if thats credible.
