Is my mole skin cancer?

I only have 1 mole on my body so I can't compare it with others, but I wanted to know if normal moles are supposed to be dark brown with a border that is a lighter brown?

Is my mole skin cancer?
be very careful of moles. a-b-c-d: danger signs: Asymetrical, Borders not smooth, Colors (more than one), and Diameter. i'd let a doctor check to be absolutly certain because skin cancer is very prevalent,,.,.,.
Reply:if it has always been that way then it is more than likely ok. if it has recently changed to look like that, then you should have it checked by a dermatologist.
Reply:idk u should go c a dermatologist and get a professional test done. all they do is take a picture. then they add a wierd blue light to it and you can tell if u have skin cancer or its just a normal mole. somthin along those lines.

=]
Reply:you should go see a dermatologist. i'm sure there is nothing wrong with your mole. but i'm sure you will feel much better if a doctor tells you that.
Reply:That definitely sounds like cancer. There are four signs, commonly called ABCDs of skin cancer. C is for Color Irregularities, and B is for border irregularites. You're two for four, doesn't look good. Get that looked at.
Reply:I have a cousin and she has a mole and the discription is similar she removed it about a week ago and the doctor said it was not cancorious but some can be so wacth out vist you doc

Which part of a Bloodroot plant contains the juice that, if aplyied to a skin mole, will burn it off?
They make a salve out of it however youy should be caustious. I found this info on it...................

On 13 Aug 2005, U.S. news media reported that Dan Raber (of Georgia, United States) came under felony investigation for dispensing bloodroot paste to women with breast cancer. It was reported that nine women developed disfiguring destruction of skin and underlying tissue. Reports also indicated that Lois March, M.D., who is a practicing physician in Cordele, Georgia, has also come under U.S. FDA investigation for her role in prescribing pain medication to Raber's disfigured customers while their use of bloodroot was ongoing 27 Aug 2005 reports: .

Hello i just want to know could you use skin lightner to reduce the apperence of a skin mole?

The more you mess around with your mole, the more likely it will mutate and become melanoma. If you want to be rid of it, have a dermatologist remove it and biopsy it just in case.

Hello i just want to know could you use skin lightner to reduce the apperence of a skin mole?
definitely not
Reply:ive never heard of it. but you can get it removed.
Reply:No, you could always get it frozen off, cut off etc

What will happened i i try to remove a skin mole?

Please do not try this. Moles have long roots. The bleeding is the worse, go to a doctor.............

Is it okay to pull hairs from a skin mole?

Wouldn't advise it. Cut it.

enjoying the feeling of pulling them out. =))
Reply:Ew. gross
Reply:Yes
Reply:i dont know!
Reply:Don't do it so often.
Reply:NO, NEVER DO THAT, IT COULD POSSIBLY BE CANCER, CALL YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR
Reply:you're a SICKO!
Reply:i dont have any moles, so i wouldnt know, but... i would suggest that you just cut it, incase plucking may harm ur skin and the mole

good luck :)
Reply:Be careful. The skin around the follicle in a mole is very susceptible to infection and mutation possibly resulting in cancer. If you have an unsightly hair; cut it, shave it close (careful) or use Nair.
Reply:Yes it is safe. Most women have moles and they do grow a hair or two. Just use clean tweezers and remove.
Reply:Its like pulling hairs out of anywhere else on your body - and I know moles have a tendency to have a single hair or hairs thicker, darker and longer than the rest of your body but if you do pull it out all exposed hair follicles have a tendency to become infected and you do not want to be scratching at a big, sore, reddish mole - pulling it out won't help the mole, it will just return to its normal state after appearing slightly gone - moles suck - and well I just use a scissor to cut the hair - Don't pull :) - The Hair does grow back - save yourself the pain, the itchiness, the irritation and the anguish - Moles also have a chance to become malignant (cancerous) if tampered with - and so just use a scissor to be safe and comfortable.
Reply:Don't think so.
Reply:It is fine. A mole is skin, and like skin has follicles. Hair grows from follicles..... it is fine to pull or tweeze them. The hair will probably grow back at sometime, but that's what hair does is grow.
Reply:It's okay...I do pull the hair from my granma's mole...it was filthy...lots of black head and hairs...ewww...yucks...

After I pull the hair and clean all the black heads there...the mole is cleaner now...I think you should care about your mole too...
Reply:No, it isn't. You need to get the mole checked to make sure it isn't cancer. Your doctor can tell you what you need to do to get rid of the hairs if it isn't cancer.

What is the standadrd procedure for removing a skin mole?

What is the standadrd procedure for removing a skin mole?
My dermatologist lasered a small one off the underside of my arm. It was a snap and took just a couple of seconds.
Reply:Moles are cut and warts are frozen.

When should you worry about a skin mole?

When it changes color and/or size, starts to itch or ooze.

When should you worry about a skin mole?
when it is two different shades or when it is miss shapen.(just had two removed from my back)
Reply:There are definite signs that a mole is suspicious and should be seen by a doctor. If you have a mole that is

Getting bigger

Changing shape, particularly getting an irregular edge

Changing colour - getting darker, becoming patchy or multi-shaded

Itching or painful

Bleeding or becoming crusty

Looks inflamed

you should go to the doctor straight away. Research suggest that moles with 3 or more different shades of brown or black are particularly likely to be melanoma.
Reply:Well, if you're simply asking the question it means it concerns you, which means you should have a dermatologist check it out. I just had a mole removed yesterday that had worried me for about a year, although the first dermatologist I saw in April said it looked ok to her. The whole process took about 5 minutes and was pretty much pain-free. My new dermatologist told me to NEVER hesitate to come in about stuff like that--it only takes a few minutes to remove and then you know for sure. I read somewhere that if it makes you look at it twice then it's something to have checked out. Plus if it is something at least you caught it early. Go have it checked out!
Reply:if you thank it cancer your Dr for skin look on at mole see what
Reply:The ones that stick off your face is contagious, if you touch them and touch another part of your face, you will cause another one to grow. The small flat ones are hereditary.

Can you yank off a skin mole (with no consequnces other than bleeding)?

Tie a thread or hair around it. every day you tighten it and after 2 or three days it will come off. I know that sounds crazy, but I have a friend that has done that and it worked

Can you yank off a skin mole (with no consequnces other than bleeding)?
its stuck to your skin, theres no harm in it unless its really big, or its dark, then you might have skin cancer. if you want it removed, go to the dermatologist
Reply:its fine just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesnt get infected
Reply:No, it has to be cut out. Even then, if they do not cut deep enough, the mole can grow back. Don't pull it off. See a dermatologist instead
Reply:Is it one of those little tag like moles? I went to the skin doc to get rid of a tiny one. She just put alcohol on it, pulled it out a little and cut it with the scissors. Then she put a band-aid on it.

My husband has shaved his off and I had one under my arm I accidentally shaved off. Just stung a little. So I guess you can if you put alcohol on it to kill any germs. If it was too big I would go to the doc tho.
Reply:There's always that possibility, but it would be better to consult a doctor or something like that first.
Reply:No, it may bleed
Reply:I have a full prof remedy this may sound strange but it works, most moles have stinacles and they will bleed and may become infected tie a piece of thread around the mole tightly as not to fall off then every day make it more tight but drawing the thread together, and knot it each time after 5-7 days the mole will fall off with no ill effects ..

How much would it cost to get a skin mole removed? Does it leave like a huge scar?

I want to get my mole removed, it's on the side of me face, i cover it up with my hair, it kinda like pops out and i hate it. I want to know an estimate on how much it would cost? If insurance covers it? and if it leaves like a huge scar that won't get removed?

How much would it cost to get a skin mole removed? Does it leave like a huge scar?
It's usually the cost of a an office visit plus a minimal amount for lab work. If you tell your dermatologist it is suddenly itchy or painful then they will biopsy it and it will be covered by insurance. If you tell them it is purely because you don't like the way it looks then your insurance will say its cosmetic and not cover it. All in all it should cost about 150 before insurance pays. I had a mole removed from the side of my nose and now there is nothing no scar or anything. I went to two different docs because the first doc told me "If I remove the mole people will notice a pretty girl with a scar on the side of her nose....if you leave the mole in place, you'll notice a pretty girl with a mole". Needless to say I got a second opinion and had the mole removed and now they just notice a pretty girl! Get it removed!!!!! Good luck to you.
Reply:If you tell the dermatologist that it is suddenly itchy or painful, that suggests that the mole is somehow abnormal and they may obligated to send it to the pathologist for microscopic evaluation (to rule out a cancer like melanoma), which will be an additional fee on top of the dermatologist's fee. Report It

Reply:The cost of getting a mole removed depends on who you see and where you have it done. Yep. Sounds wierd. Family doctors, dermatologists and plastic surgeons will all remove moles for you, but the plastic surgeon will usually cost the most. It's hard to tell how much it will cost since insurance companies typically base what they pay on the usual and customary charges for the zip code your doctor is in.

Why does it matter where you have it done? In the state of Washington, if you have your mole removed at a facility, not in a hospital, but one that is owned by a hospital (University of Washington, Virginia Mason are two examples), you will be responsible for additional charges made by the facility. So do your homework.

Finally, there are different charges for the removal depending on what the surgery is. For example, if your mole is elevated above the skin and is small enough, you can have it removed by shave biopsy, which will usually leave a smaller scar than the one you might get with an excisional biopsy. The trick is that you need an experienced practitioner to do this, since if they remove too much, you have a dent in your skin, and too little, and it grows back. Another way of removing moles is to do a punch biopsy. One question I would have for you is are you prone to forming keloids, which are a form of exuberant scarring? That might make a difference for you as well.

The only other question is whether the doctor would want to send it off to have a pathologist look at it, which would be an additional fee. Good luck!
Reply:That would be called a biopsy and it really is not that expensive but you should have insurance for it.

It won't leave a huge scar. For the first few days, it will look like a scab but it will then go away. If you really want to speed up the process, put on miderma (for kids - depending on how old you are).

Do in home skin mole removers work?

I wouldn't recommend it. You could get a serious infection if you tried it yourself. Please go see a doctor instead.

Do in home skin mole removers work?
Haha! That is crazy that u ask this qt, cuz I have the PERFECT solution for them!!! Well, this is an old grandma's remedy, but it works!!!!! And this will work with basically any mole! Grab either a thick strand of ur own hair, u can rip it off urself, or u can use a really thin string....But ur own hair works best....Tie the hair, into a knot, tightly around the mole (It may sting, cuz of the pressure***), and cut off any excess left of the hair, so it's not all draping around, especially if it's a very long strand of hair...Now, let the hair stay wrapped on the mole for no more than a week....Within a few days, u will see that the mole will start turning dark, almost black (and the reason why this is the case, is cuz the hair is cutting off circulation to the mole, thus forth, it is not being "fed" by blood anymore***), and within 4-5 days, it will fall off!!!! My Mom has done that, my Grandma, me, u name it! And it works every single time!!! I even did it to my best friend! She had the most horrendous, biggest, ugliest, nastiest mole that I had ever seen in my life, on the tip of her shoulder....For yrs, she was soo embarrassed to wear any tank tops or anything of that sort......So I convinced her to let me try this out on her...And she finally gave in...Within 3 days, the thing fell off!!!! And there was no bruising, no soreness in the area, NOTHING! Just perfect, clean skin! The only thing left behind was a small dot, where the mole had been...That is ALL! And till today, she still thanks me for that cheap, quick solution.....I hope my advice helps! I guarantee u, it WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps: If u have the mole in an odd place, or it's hard to reach, like on ur back, have someone u feel comfortable with wrap the hair tightly around the mole....Also! The tighter it is wrapped, the quicker it will come off!!! And no!!!! You won't get any adverse reactions/results after it is off doing it this old fashioned way!!! I have done it for yrs, and even my doctor has looked at them, and he is amazed at the fact that it seems like there was no mole there ever!!!! So good luck! =)

I have a skin mole. Can it be removed at home?

No You need to see a dermatologist aka a skin doctor. I had a mole on my chin that doubled in size and would bleed. A doctor had to remove it. They usually use a scalpel or they can freeze it off depending on the size of it. And if they are concerned they would do a biopsy to see if it is cancerous or not.

I have a skin mole. Can it be removed at home?
No moles need to be removed in the docs office. Often it takes a stitch or two to close the wound and the doc will send it to the lab for testing if it is a suspicious one.
Reply:absolutely not....removing a skin mole should only be done by a doctor. under no circumstances should you try to do it yourself. you could wind up, hurting yourself pretty bad. if it bothers you, that much, then talk to a dermatologist.
Reply:Definitely not. Go to the doctor and get him to check your moles, and make a mole map for later reference. Unless moles are cancerous, they dont need removal.

How do you remove a permanent skin mole?

I have a tiny black mole on my cheekbone. Whether or not it's a beauty mark, I think it looks ugly. Is there a way to remove it?

How do you remove a permanent skin mole?
Your doc shoud be able to remove that. I had one on my leg removed a few years ago. All she did was just freeze the area, and then but it out. A few dissolving stitches, and viola! No more mole. It only take a few minutes, but if it's considered cosmetic, your insurance might not cover it, so check that out beforehand. But it's a quick and pretty painless procedure, and well worth it if it really bugs you. But I don't think there's an at home way to remove a mole.
Reply:Go to a dermatogogist.
Reply:Only a doctor should do that. You can cover it up with cover stick you can buy at any drug store.
Reply:i have several on my body. I recently got a couple removed from laser surgery. very expensive. though
Reply:Treatment

If your doctor takes a tissue sample of the mole and finds it to be cancerous, the entire mole and a margin of normal tissue around it needs to be removed. Usually a mole that has been removed won't reappear. If it does, see your doctor promptly.

Treatment of most moles usually isn't necessary. For cosmetic reasons, a mole can be removed in several ways:

Shave excision. In this method, your doctor numbs the area around a mole and then uses a small blade to shave off the mole close to your skin.

Punch biopsy. Your doctor may remove a mole with a small incision or punch biopsy technique, which uses a small cookie-cutter-like device.

Excisional surgery. In this method, your doctor cuts out the mole and a surrounding margin of healthy skin.

These procedures are usually performed in the office of your doctor or dermatologist and take only a short time. Learn more at:

Reply:i must say proper surgery . see a specialist on these sort of thing.
Reply:DERMATOLOGIST THEY CAN PUT PHENOL ON IT AND IT WILL BE GONE TEMPORARILY...OR TINY SCRAPE TOOL WILL DO IT PERM.
Reply:Yes. See a dermatologist. They do this all the time.
Reply:Go to a medical professional they should be able to remove it - my sister had one removed.
Reply:u can freeze the mole off. %26amp; u can get the treatment at any drug store
Reply:Yep. Go and see a surgeon ( most family docs can do this). What they do is they numb the area of the mole with injection of Marcaine or other numbing agent usually ( this is the most painful, burning feel, but goes away in seconds) Then they will cut it out,;depending on the size of the mole, they will use either a CO2 laser to ablate it (leave a light dissapearing scar) or use some stitches to close the skin back up. After wards it will take a few days and you have no more mole. :) It only takes a few minutes and is painless after the numbing part!!! They usually sent the removed mole for a pathologist to make sure it is not cancerous. this is just a pre caution, more than likely it is not cancerous. If you deside againt removing it, please keep an eye on it for change in size and appearance. If it gets bigger go and see a doc. :) Good luck.
Reply:that is a really good question when u come up with that answer tell me too please
Reply:Removal Of Moles

The doctor may remove a mole by anesthetizing the area and cutting it off with a blade or with electric surgery. Sometimes the mole and its surrounding portion are removed totally from the body and the sample is sent to lab for examination. Moles can be removed for reasons such as suspected melanoma, cosmetic appearance, or plain nuisance.

Are all skin mole?

deadly?

Are all skin mole?
Absolutely NOT! however, you really need to see a dermatologist to determine whether it is cancerous or not. Most of the time your doctor can look at it and ask you questions to determine what it is. He may want to biopsy it also. I just went through this 7 months ago. Good luck!
Reply:no u shud get it checked by the doctor to find out if its cancerous or not
Reply:No. Most of them are completely harmless. But if one starts to grow in a weird shape or turn a funky color you might want to get it checked out.

Are skin mole?

deadly?

Are skin mole?
Possibly. It is good that you are aware of this, because many people aren't. There are lots of ways you can find out if your mole is malevolent (cancerous), but the only way to know FOR SURE is to see a doctor. Then, if they are a danger, your doctor will remove them. Best of luck!

(I placed a site below which has a chart of dangerous moles. )

Skin mole being torn half way off?

i have a mole below my left breast i accidently tore it half way off what can i do now and what should i put on it?

Skin mole being torn half way off?
Just put some triple antibiotic ointment on it and a band-aid and it will be fine!! Try to leave the band-aid off at night to let it breathe though.
Reply:Be careful! Tearing at your skin can lead to many infections because u know have an open wound on your body. I would make an appt to see the doctor.
Reply:I would just cover it with a bandage, but go in to see a doctor to have it fully removed!!
Reply:You should see your doctor or a dermatologist. They may recommend that you just go ahead and let them remove it. It would be covered by your insurance because it's medically necessary.
Reply:That happened to me before. I just finished ripping it off and put a bandaid on it. It healed in a couple of days and the mole never came back.

Flat Moles - Scarring?

I have a flat skin mole (2) that are pretty small on my nose I would like to get removed. They are freckled-sized. I wanna get them removed. When I go to the dermatologist to get them removed, will I have any scarring?

Flat Moles - Scarring?
I've had some moles removed from the dermatologist. It really depends on if their is hair growing out of them, if there is it means they have to go under the skin to get them out, but if not you;re in the clear, of course you will have a scar, because after all you are cutting your skin, but it will heal pretty quickly. My advice is to use Vitamin E to make the healing process faster. Good luck!
Reply:I don't know, but flat moles are not good! My grandfather died cause of his, and his was just flat and black, what color is yours? As far as the scarring, I have seen it to leave them on some, and others not so much!

When doctors test moles how do they do it.?

When you have them tested to see if there cancerous or anything what test do they do and how is carried out.

Okay, who'd like to make the first animal mole/skin mole joke.

When doctors test moles how do they do it.?
First the doctor will take a very close look at the mole. Next they will see if there is any evidence of bleeding or secretion. Both of these are signs of possible malignancy.

If there is evidence to support carcinoma, they will send the patient to a specialist who will then either take the mole off or freeze it with liquid Nitrogen.

If the mole is taken off it is then put into a jar of formaldehyde and transported to the Histology lab, where it will be encased in wax and put on a device that shaves off very slim slithers at a time. Each slither is examined under a microscope and the report is sent back to the specialist and the doctor.
Reply:i have a mole on my face and the doctor just looked at and said it wasnt harmful so they can just tell from looking
Reply:They just analyze the mole for cancer cells... it can be by microscope or by a chemical reaction

generally, they remove the mole and just send it to a lab
Reply:different moles do have different characteristics so an observation is usually enough.

If the doc has concerns they may remove the mole or take a selection of cells (biospsy) to observe futher. I should think that if it were cancerous, the cells within it would be stereotypical of a tumour which would be many of the same cells as tumours replicate cells at an abnormal rate
Reply:ok then i will be first with the mole jokes, a doctor does not treat moles a vet does, maybe not that funny, how about this one, i had a mole removed from my penis, the vet was furious, boom boom. on a serious note, my mum has just been through all this, a long series of tests biopsys and then a string of blood tests, she is fine now, there will be people in answer land who will slate me for poking fun at this issue, i made my mum laugh all the way through this terrible time, it also gave her hope as in her generation people died of various cancers on a regular basis, so a lesson for us all, laugh in the face of adversity
Reply:get their shovel out!
Reply:The doctor sends it to a pathology lab. The lab sections it (cuts it into very thin sections). They fix it and stain it and look at it on a microscope. Mole cells look a certain way and cancer cells look another way.

What does a skin cancer or melanoma mole look like?

what does a melanoma or skin cancer mole look like? Is there a good chance of survival if you get it treated soon enough. How much time do you have to act? Just because the mole might be irregular does it necessarily mean melanoma? How big are they? Thanks.

What does a skin cancer or melanoma mole look like?
Non melanoma skin cancers (basal and squamous cell) are much more common than melanomas.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/skinc...

That is not to say that melanomas are not also rather common. Here are some melanoma photos and info to check out. A melanoma doesn't have to be nearly as large as those in these photos since they usually use large examples for online photos.

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types...

http://www.dermatology.org/molemelanoma/...

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ruth.livingsto...

With melanomas there are three things that determine cure rate - how big, how deep and how soon you get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment. If you have any thoughts that a mole might not look right then you need to see a dermatologist immediately for a check up.
Reply:If you expose yourself to sun frequently and you noticed that a "mole" has been growing the only way to find out if its skin cancer is by having a doctor look at it. If the doctor does a biopsy of the mole then that is the only way to find out if the growth is malignant or not.

I want to get rid of the moles on my face, what is the best way, for African American skin?
go to the doctor and get it professionally removed, but the doctor did tell me that a little scarring would be involved, as our skin is quite tough, but i suppose if you dont mind and use makeup on a daily basis then i would recommend that.

personally, after informed that scarring would take place i cancel the appointment!
Reply:moles are beyond skin deep, so laser is the answer..

all laser procedures can involve scarring, and fresh scars are easier to treat than unwanted moles.

my 2 cents. :-)

If I have moles (birth marks) should I go ahead and get them removed to prevent skin cancer?

I have a couple and heard that they could eventually become cancerous. Is this true, and should I go ahead and see about getting them all removed? (I have about 4 of them, and I am only 24 years old.)

If I have moles (birth marks) should I go ahead and get them removed to prevent skin cancer?
Moles can become cancerous, BUT I have several, and my doctor told me that I would need to worry ONLY if they started to grow and turn black. I am 68 and have never had to have one removed. Just watch for changes in them and consult your doctor if there are any.

Chow!!
Reply:Only if they look really wierd, (think a disgusting looking color) and are not circular shaped but more of a messed up oval. If you're not sure, ask your doctor.
Reply:I think if you really want to because you are self conscious about them. Otherwise only if they grow and change shape and color.
Reply:Well, moles and birthmarks are two different things. Not all moles become cancerous, but there is no harm in getting them removed if you want them gone.

Reply:hello,

a quick trip to the dermatologist and the moles can be quickly removed. that's what i did. however, keep in mind that if some moles are large, they could be "rooted" under the skin, which means after the removal, you might have a hardly noticeable "dip" in the skin surface. You'll be so glad when they are gone!

Good Luck! :)
Reply:instead of going to a beautician better consult a dermatologist (skin specialist) who can permanently remove the moles without any adverse effect on your skin.Nowadays laser treatment is very popular in doing this job.
Reply:avoid dermatologist. they will fraud you by taking money by the name of laser and they ultimately use scalpel. this will form scar. moles are better than scar.

What skin conditions are related to small red dots and expanding moles and freckles?

I've been gaining Freckles that seem to be expanding every few days I notice more freckles I never noticed before and they

I'm noticing a lot more really light dots, and the light dots usualkly get darker as time goes on. I was told they are just sun spots, it jus feels like I'll turn brown at this rate. Why the red spots that looks like blood just under the surface. very small. I havn't seen anything like it before...

I thought it might be cancer..

is it just sun spots or could it be something else?

What skin conditions are related to small red dots and expanding moles and freckles?
of course it could be anything, more than likely you have the kind of skin that you should really document your moles and whatever else is going on and see a dermatologist once a year. People with "lots" (over 100) of moles and fair skin and freckles are more prone to skin cancer--so you should be aware . My husband has this type of skin and gets about 4 moles whacked off every year and he has never had skin cancer but they always check for it and tell him to come back in one year. Some things to be concerned about in moles is

assymetry--not even or not a perfect circle

multi colored moles--especially with black in them

uneven edges --like a side that sort of fades into the skin

changes--any change in shape or color or size

this is not all inclusive. Also, don't get paranoid about it--we find weird moles and think for sure they are cancerous and it has turned out they are not. You probably want to see a dermatologist to get some better info and a diagnosis if needed.

On the other hand, I'm relatively dark skinned for a white person and when I was in my mid-30's I started noticing a few dark spots on my cheeks and legs and determined they are sun spots also known as age spots. But they are brown and not red. Dr. is not concerned about that. These seem to be more of a cosmetic issue if anything.
Reply:See a dermatologist ( skin doctor ) make sure its not serious

What exactly is a skin mole?

Are they bad to have in any number shape or size? What causes a mole, cause we are born mole free, the sun? My son has about a dozen new moles since the start of summer, is that a reflection of anything? I don't always remember to use sunscreen when he is playing outside but he is very tan and hasn't had but maybe one sunburn in his life. What is the appopriate amount of sun exposure to get the neccesary vitamin D?

What exactly is a skin mole?
Get them checked out if they are new. A mole is a collection of skin pigmentation. They should be symmetrical in shape (equal on both sides). If they have irregular borders , asymmetrical shape , or are black then they may be a deadly form of cancer and must be removed asap.

Skin mole question?

well i have alot of moles but mostly 1 im worried about since it has Border irregular i think since the mole froms a really tiny gun shape. it doesnt really look like a gun but looking kind of close it does. it is black and it is a half of a cm it has been on my face for as long as i know but today ive been really thinking about it.

Who can i see to help me?

by the way im only 13 and i heard that u can only get these things when your near 50 years old is that true too?

thank you i am really concern about this

Skin mole question?
Actually you can get moles at any age. You need to have your mom take u to go see a dermatologist, he can test a piece of it to see if it cancerous or benign(OK). He also can remove it completely. Good luck.

I have black bumps that looks like moles that have started to appear on my skin. I have dark skin.?

Hi,

I just has 6 moles removed recently! (Because of same appearance). I went to my family doctor one day, 3 days later I went to her office again, she frozen them, sliced them off with a razor blade (Felt not one inch of pain) All done in a mater of 20 Min's, then off they went to the lab.

They will phone you early if anything was detected. I went back in 3 weeks later and so happy to here all were OK. (Not cancer).

My Doctor told me with ageing they may discolour a bit, but better safe then sorry.

Please go to your family doctor, show your doctor the moles.

Before to late! Good luck, don't be scared, just get it looked after.

Thank you.

Underground mole? Skin cancer?

I just recently discovered that there was a mole-looking thing on the back of my hand. It looks like a mole in that it's small and round. However, it has more of a blue-ish green color when looked at closely, and instead of being out on the top layer of the skin, it appears to be several layers under the skin, like a bruised follicle or something.

What is this?

Underground mole? Skin cancer?
Melanocytic nevi are benign neoplasms or hamartomas composed of melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells that constitutively colonize the epidermis. Melanocytes are derived from the neural crest and migrate during embryogenesis to selected ectodermal sites (primarily the skin and the CNS), but also to the eyes and the ears. Ectopic melanocytes have been identified at autopsy in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts.

Melanocytic nevi are completely benign. However, melanocytic nevi can be found in association with melanoma. The true frequency of transformation of a melanocytic nevus into melanoma is not known, and the estimated prevalence varies widely in published series. In some series, it is quite low, while in others, it is up to 40%. Both acquired and congenital melanocytic nevi hold some risk for the development of melanoma. Congenital nevi hold the greater risk.

Large and giant congenital melanocytic nevi often have both biological and cosmetic implications. Large congenital nevi have a low but real risk for malignant transformation and the development of melanoma. Some authorities believe that melanoma can develop within a giant congenital nevus in up to 5% of cases.

Melanocytic nevi are common lesions that can be found on the integument of almost all individuals. Some patients present with few lesions, while others have hundreds. The number on a given individual increases in rough proportion to the degree of skin pigmentation.

Nevi can be broadly divided into congenital and acquired types. Determining if a lesion is congenital or acquired is generally easily accomplished by direct query of the patient, although some small congenital melanocytic nevi are tardive and may be perceived by the patient as acquired.

When evaluating the nature of a melanocytic lesion, a number of attributes must be assessed. Further commentary describing physical attributes can be found in Physical.

Whether a lesion has become symptomatic (eg, itchy, painful, irritated, or bleeding) is important.

Not all melanocytic nevi that change are malignant, especially if change is noted in a person younger than 40 years. However, change that is perceptible over a short time is an indicator of potential malignancy and designates a lesion deserving of biopsy.

Acquired melanocytic nevi are typically less than a centimeter in diameter and evenly colored.

Melanocytic nevi most commonly are tan to brown, but coloration can be variable, ranging from skin-colored (nonpigmented) to jet black.

Spitz nevi are a distinctive variant of melanocytic nevi. In decades past, these lesions were called juvenile melanomas, but now they are recognized by specific microscopical features and are known to be benign. The outdated designation juvenile melanoma persists in some areas, but the term should be discarded because of the dire prognosis it suggests and its potential for misconstrued implications.

Although Spitz nevi tend to manifest as pink papules on the head of a child, they can be clinically indistinguishable from conventional nevi in some instances; they also can be heavily pigmented.

Many Spitz nevi exhibit considerable associated vascular ectasia and, thus, display a hemangiomalike clinical appearance.

Blue nevi are a form of melanocytic nevi that typically is heavily pigmented. Because of the presence of deep pigmentation within a refracting colloidal medium (namely, the skin), the brownish-black pigment present contributes a bluish cast to such lesions, thereby explaining the name. The optical effect that accounts for clinical blueness is known as the Tyndall phenomenon.

Not all blue nevi are blue, and some are various shades of gray, brown, or black. The clinical appearance varies depending on the degree of clinical pigmentation. Indeed, some blue nevi may be wholly amelanotic. Because of the fact that the term blue nevus is not always reflective of the true clinical appearance of the lesion, some dermatopathologists name blue nevi based on the cellular morphology present (eg, dendritic melanocytic nevi).

Despite their variability in coloration, blue nevi are usually relatively small and reasonably symmetric, as typically is the case in benign lesions. Blue nevi typically occur on the distal extremities or scalp, but they can occur anywhereSimple excisional biopsy is the procedure of choice for removal and diagnosis of a melanocytic nevus. All removed melanocytic nevi should be submitted for microscopic evaluation. Because the interpretation of pigmented lesions may be challenging, many dermatologists prefer to have their specimens read by a qualified dermatopathologist.

Either shave biopsy or punch biopsy is typically used for cosmetic removal of banal melanocytic nevi.

Strive for complete excision of the lesion, if at all possible, when a melanocytic nevus is removed for diagnosis because of its atypical features (with the ultimate goal of excluding the possibility of melanoma from the differential diagnosis).

A complete excisional biopsy permits all available histopathological criteria to be applied to a lesion and thus enables a more precise diagnosis.

When a partial punch or shave biopsy sample is taken from a lesion, the interpreting pathologist cannot apply important criteria, such as symmetry and circumscription (lateral demarcation), to the assessment of the lesion. If a partial biopsy specimen of a larger lesion is obtained because of clinical necessity, the fact that the specimen is partial should be clearly indicated on the requisition form.

Partial biopsy samples can sometimes lead to misdiagnosis because of sampling error.

Partial biopsy samples can inflate the number of procedures required for diagnosis because a partial biopsy sample that does not enable a definitive diagnosis to be made necessarily leads to subsequent reexcision of the lesion in question.

I have a kinda big mole and I'm wondering if it might be skin cancer and i also keep getting weird moles also

Moles, known medically as nevi, are clusters of pigmented cells that often appear as small, dark brown spots on your torso, face, arms and legs. But moles can come in a range of colors and can develop virtually anywhere, including your scalp, armpits, under your nails, and between your fingers and toes.

Most people have between 10 and 40 moles, although the number you have may change throughout life. New moles can appear into mid-adulthood, and because moles last about 50 years, some moles may disappear as you age.

I have a kinda big mole and I'm wondering if it might be skin cancer and i also keep getting weird moles also
So go to the doctor and have them checked.
Reply:So long as the mole is circular and is not changing it should be fine. If you are nervous about it see the doc and get it checked out.
Reply:as long as they are not itchy or crusty around the outside or they arent growing rapidly your fine =if any of the 3 are happening see a Dr
Reply:Don't know what you mean by weird, but moles that are round and don't have jagged edges are usually not dangerous. Addi tonally, you need to observe for changes in color. I feel you need to be checked by a dermatologist. Good luck.
Reply:I've had doctors tell me that moles are really only dangerous if they change. If your mole is new or has suddenly become a different color, texture, or shape, then you should absolutely get it looked at, but just having a mole doesn't mean anything.

The weird moles that you say you've been developing should probably be checked by a dermatologist.
Reply:If the mole is changing in color, becoming darker. if the edges are jagged or abnormal, greater than 6mm in size, if the mole is raised, Then you need to go see your Doctor.

How to get rid of the moles - small, big, flat or comingup on skin - face and body ?

Reply:um i think only a doctor can remove them
Reply:try scissors.
Reply:well if really want to remove them go to a dermatologist and ask for mole removal. Be careful not to pick or scratch them as they may get infected or be cancerous. I saw this once on TV, this lady has a lot of mole im her face and she went to a dermatologist to have them remove. Then after a few days her mole dried out and they were completley gone w/o a trace.

GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:go to a doctor (:
Reply:If you are talking about skin tags (small fleshy; mole like) You can cut them or twist them off yourself. Wash the area well and apply neosporin or bacitracin to the area after removal until healed completely. They are mostly caused from rubbing of the skin. Like with necklaces around the neck. Which is why so many of us have them there.

If you have actual moles .. always go to your dermatologist so they can be looked at and documented. With moles, there is more than you see to them. They have roots under the skin that also have to be removed and biopsied for cancer. Please do not try to remove or treat these yourself. Its too risky!

I have moles that keep appearing on my skin? Why could this be is there any ways to get rid of it?

i would see a doc

I have moles that keep appearing on my skin? Why could this be is there any ways to get rid of it?
it could be cancer opp! did i say that go to a Dr. right away . my sister went to the DR. with the same thing. the DR took a big chunk of her butt off, that was a blessing to her ,if you ask me.
Reply:they are blind and normally appear in one's yard..before you get up from your yard, stand really still so that cant see you before you run in the house..that should throw them off
Reply:Well i dont know what's causing them, but they're ways to get rid of them, the best way though is to see a dermatologist. My grandma had them, she went to the dermatologist and she got them removed.
Reply:I have the same skin issue. Unfortunately, it's a combination of genetics and past sun exposure. A few years ago I paid to get about 10 of them removed by a plastic surgeon (to reduce the risk of scarring) and it was not covered by insurance since they were not cancerous. It ended up costing over $500! Depending on the size of the moles and whether they are raised above the skin or not will determine how much it will cost to get yours removed. The problem is, just because you get some removed now, doesn't mean more won't pop up in the near future. I would avoid the sun and go to a dermatologist to get your current moles checked out for skin cancer.

God I sound awful...... look past that and I'm a b loody good catch!
Reply:In life we have DNA. DNA is like long strands much like a shoelace. At the end of the shoelace is a sheath that keeps the DNA helix from becoming unraveled. Every time the body needs a new cell, the process of replication begins. That's where the sheath at the end of the shoelace becomes important, the sheath can only bind the helix so many times. The pattern for the replacement cells begins to change over time.

What causes the appearance of mulitiple moles and freckle like spots to appear on skin.?

Why would these appear on skin that has not been exposed to the sun?

What causes the appearance of mulitiple moles and freckle like spots to appear on skin.?
The coloring of moles and freckles is due to production of a pigment called melanin. When your skin is exposed to light, your body can respond by making more melanin. In some people this shows up as freckles and in other people as a tan. A mole that changes in size, shape, or color should be evaluated by a doctor to rule out skin cancer.
Reply:Anything that you are not born with is caused by the sun or other types of radiation.
Reply:Freckles are flat tan, brown or black spots that appear over time on areas of skin that have been exposed to the sun. Freckles are common among those with lighter skin who sunburn easily. Age spots, which appear later in life, are superficial collections of the skin pigment melanin which occur within the top layer (epidermis) of the skin. Freckles and age spots, classified as symptoms of photoaging, are commonly found on the face and hands, or any other part of the body that

has been overexposed to the sun.

The basic cause of freckles is special cells in the skin that produce a pigment called melanin. Melanin is what gives skin its color. Sunlight hitting the skin causes the production of more melanin in order to protect the skin layers underneath. If you have melanin that builds up in one place, it will result in freckles. Sunlight also causes freckles already present to become darker. Dark skin that appears during pregnancy or while on birth control pills is called melasma, or the mask of pregnancy. Sun exposure makes these patches and spots even darker. Flat, large spots on the skin in middle age are caused by sun exposure, and are known as age spots, liver spots, or lentigines. Sun exposure is also powerful enough to change certain skin cells into dangerous skin cancers, leading physicians to recommend protective sunscreen and clothing. These actions can also help slow the appearance of both freckles and age spots. For those who already have any brown, discolored lesions, an in-depth consultation should be scheduled with a physician. He or she will perform a careful examination to determine that these spots are not pre-cancerous. This can develop on the skin causing growths that have irregular borders and strange colors such as black, red or pink. Look for spots that don’t heal, have lack of symmetry, or are of a large size. See a dermatologist if you have any spots on your skin that look suspicious.
Reply:All skin contains melanin, a pigment which canbe activated by the sun. When spots of melanin collect and are stimulated to darken, whether by heredity, medication or sunlight, these spots appear.
Reply:Did anyone even read your question? You clearly said the skin has not been exposed to the sun yet all answers so far say it is due to the sun. Freckle like spots and moles that have definitely had not been exposed to the sun are simply due to aging, usually after 40 years of age.

What is the difference between a skin tag and a mole?

I went to a dermatologist yesterday, and got a general skin exam. I have a few moles that i wanted to get checked out, just for good measure since skin cancer runs in my family. The nurse who was examining me was not particularily polite or interested in making me comfortable while she examined me, so when she said dismissivily, "thats a skin tag" about a bump that happens to be in an awkward area, I didn't question her. I have always had the mole/skin tag, and always believed it to be a mole. I read online that moles are something we are born with, and skin tags are developed later on, usually later in life (I'm 18), so I'm wondering if she could have been mistaken. I guess it only really matters since I plan to probably get it removed, and because moles have the possibility to become cancerous. Could she have been wrong, and what exactly is the difference between the two? Thanks.

What is the difference between a skin tag and a mole?
skin tags hang like tags. moles are like circular raised areas. you can get either removed easily. I don't think skin tags can become cancerous. I got my moles removed with a do it at home 20 minute herbal paste. I got it from here: www.wartmoleremover.co.uk Cheap and you can do it in the privacy of your own home
Reply:skin tags hang from you body, moles dont.

How to rid of moles that is on the skin?
You need to talk to a dermatologist...don't try it yourself!!
Reply:live with it
Reply:I use a pair of sharp scissors and rubbing alcohol myself.

If you go to a dermatologist, first he will numb them with novacaine, then cut them off with a sharp scissors and then sterilize the area with rubbing alcohol. But he will send the removed mole to a lab to be tested for cancer ... an unlikely and unpleasant complication.

If you don't think you can bear the pain, or can't reach with the scissors, you could try salicytic acid based wart remover. That will basically chemically burn the skin about 1/16th of an inch at a time per day. It takes longer, doesn't hurt as much and is less likely to get infected.

Has anyone ever heard of a Spitz Nevi, it is a type of skin mole?

I had a mole removed. It was found to be a Spitz nevi. What I read about it says that it is hard to distinguish between it and melanoma, which scared me. So the dermotologist wants to biopsy more skin around the site, just as a precaution. She said it is "not melanoma" so why would she want another biopsy? (maybe zero liability) Anyway, has anyone else had this?

Has anyone ever heard of a Spitz Nevi, it is a type of skin mole?
Here is a link..it is thought to be an autoimmune disease (your body is attacking itself)..

What causes moles to grow on the skin ?

Melanin is a natural pigment that gives your skin its color. It's produced in cells called melanocytes, either in the top layer of the skin (epidermis) or the outer layers of the skin's second layer (dermis). Melanin is then transported to the surface cells of your skin. Normally, melanin is distributed evenly, but sometimes melanocytes grow together in a cluster, giving rise to moles.

Scientists don't know why moles develop or what purpose they serve, if any, although they do appear to be determined before birth. Most moles are harmless and don't require special care, but some people have unusual-looking moles, called dysplastic nevi, which are more likely to turn cancerous than ordinary moles are. Atypical moles occur most often on the back in both men and women, and also on the abdomen, chest and legs in women.

What causes moles to grow on the skin ?
I heard it's from being a warlock!

What causes moles to appear on the skin?

Two ways

1) Excessive sun exposure. UV rays excite your melanocytes and it produces more melanin. Melanin is a substance in your skin that determines your color. The more activity of melanin you have, the darker tone your skin will be. Increased production of melanin will lead to the appearance of moles and freckles.

2) Family history. If moles run in your families, you'll probably get some yourself.

What causes moles to appear on the skin?
If they suddenly appear you should go to see a dermatologist immediately as it could be skin cancer. Most moles are there from birth. Anytime you develop any new skin conditions you should seek medical attention. While most are harmless, skin cancer can kill and can do it very quickly. Better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:Here's a link with info about moles... please do get any moles checked ASAP if you have any question about them. Definitely worth it to be on the safe side.

Reply:a mole is caused by excess melanin in your skin (thats the stuff your body makes when your exposed to sun . . .. i think or is that for freckles. . . . . dunno good question
Reply:Actually, despite what everyone is saying, it is not certain that moles are caused from the sun. It plays a role, but I know plenty of people that have a mole or other naevi that isn't exposed to the sun.

They only go away if a doctor cuts them out, and if they don't cut deep enough (you'll need stitches) they will grow back.
Reply:have it checked out by a doctor. Moles are a sign of skin cancer

What's the quickest most natural/organic way to get rid of Skin Tags, Warts and/or Moles ?

A very wide question! but here goes!

Skin Tags - A little trick a doctor told me, that is if they are not too large, is just simply tie them up with some cotton thread and leave them to fall off!

Warts - Well.... Nitrogen is the main gas in the atmosphere, so, it is natural! Go to the pharmacy, or Doctors and as about Liquid Nitrogen treatment, all you really do is freeze the root of the wart!

Moles - I would never ever touch moles as they can turn cancerous! leave them alone of if they really really bother you go and see you local doctor.
