What causes moles to appear on the skin?

Two ways

1) Excessive sun exposure. UV rays excite your melanocytes and it produces more melanin. Melanin is a substance in your skin that determines your color. The more activity of melanin you have, the darker tone your skin will be. Increased production of melanin will lead to the appearance of moles and freckles.

2) Family history. If moles run in your families, you'll probably get some yourself.

What causes moles to appear on the skin?
If they suddenly appear you should go to see a dermatologist immediately as it could be skin cancer. Most moles are there from birth. Anytime you develop any new skin conditions you should seek medical attention. While most are harmless, skin cancer can kill and can do it very quickly. Better to be safe than sorry.
